It is also home to many major distribution centers, just to name a few:

EDUCATION

The Fontana Unified School District is located in Southern California in what is known as the Inland Empire, a growing community 50 miles east of Los Angeles. The 35-school district serves preschool-adult in an urban/suburban environment. The community is rich in cultural, racial, and economic diversities. The City cherishes its differing cultural backgrounds and the common goal of high expectations for its children, and the commitment to the continuing improvement of its schools.

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is the sole public, comprehensive, regional university serving the Riverside-San Bernardino counties of Southern California. Founded in 1965, the campus offers more than 50 traditional baccalaureate and master's degree programs along with a wide variety of education credential and certificate programs to a student body of 16,000. Because of recent growth, new facilities (10 new buildings in 10 years) have been established, providing students, faculty and staff with an excellent learning and working environment equipped with superior technological capabilities.

RECREATION

Fontana is close to the mountains, beaches, several lakes and desert areas. We are just a short jaunt to twelve County of San Bernardino regional parks. The California Speedway is located just west of Fontana's border. Fontana is home to the Fontana Days Half Marathon and 5-k run. This race is on record as the fastest half marathon course in the world.

Sierra Lakes Golf Course is a par 72, daily fee golf course with 18 holes of championship golf in a country club setting. It was designed by well-known golf course architect, Ted Robinson. A second course is under construction in the city.

The Performing Arts Center serves as the cultural focus of the area offering musical, dance and theater performances to local residents and adjacent communities alike.

The Mary Vagle Science and Nature Center provides displays, hiking trails and a petroglyph site as well as a protected habitat for local wildlife. After-school and summer day camp programs are held at the center.

The Josephine Knopf Senior Center offers seniors a variety of activities, classes and referrals for legal, medical and tax services.

PUBLIC AMENITIES

The City of Fontana is proud of its variety of city amenities, particularly its Community Centers:

  • Civic Auditorium
  • Cypress Community Center

  • Jessie Turner Community Center
  • Josephine Knopf Senior Center

The Fontana Skate Park was created in an effort to promote recreational activities in a safe environment for the youth and teens in the area. Located next to the Fontana Teen Center, the park is just one component of an all new youth oriented Jack Bulik Park, which will eventually include and indoor roller hockey rink. Advanced features of the Fontana skate park include on-line "Web" cameras for Internet viewing, fun boxes, slant rails, 1 ft. "baby" bowls, 7-9 foot "sick" bowls, and a finger board park. Without question, this is a skate park the community can grow with.
